About the library

Our library provides or enables access to media such as periodicals, course books, specialist books and CD-ROMs as well as electronic information to support our students and our lecturers alike. The library is both, a study library with workplaces and a borrowing library, and it is open to all members of the university.

The library focuses on technical and scientific publications for all study programmes offered at THGA (geo-engineering and post-mining, mechanical engineering, material sciences, electrical engineering, infortmation technology, and business engineering). Our reading rooms feature around 30,000 volumes which can either be consulted in the library itself or borrowed and taken home for studying. They are sorted by category. In addition, you will have access to around 300 journals and daily papers.

THGA students use their StudiCard as both their library card and their photocopy card.

Different rules apply to external users and staff of DMT-LB.

Please check the library catalogue first if the periodical requested is part of our stock.

Library stock:
If the year and volume of the periodical requested is freely available on the library shelves, you can access it there.

If the year and volume of the periodical requested is marked as "Magazin" (archive), then you need to request access to it per email or at the borrowing counter. We will make the year and volume accessible to you as soon as possible and might inform you via email when this is the case.

What information do we need?

  • Title of the journal/periodical

  • Year of publication

  • Author and title of the paper requested

  • Where you found the paper: numbe of issue and page numbers

Interlibrary loan:
If you require access to papers from periodicals which are not stocked in our library, you can order them via our interlibrary loan. Please note that interlibrary loans are subject to a fee.

THGA students are automatically registered with the library through their enrolment. Please note the information on your  student ID card (StudiCard) and concerning change of address.

Please note that you cannot borrow books or media without your student ID card.

Staff of DMT-LB should contact us in person to register with the library.

External users can be admitted after consultation. Please provide a valid photo ID with your current place of residence.

Do you want to suggest a title to us?

Then please let us know the author, title, publication year and ISBN. If we think the title makes sense for our library, we might order it. We can also put your name down on a list so you will be the first to borrow it.

Write an email to: Bibliothek[at]thga.de.

You can top up your StudiCard in the AStA of THGA.

The currently valid user regulations can be accessed here: Benutzungsordnung.

There are 50 workplaces available in our library where can study and work. Six of the PC workplaces.

Please note that the workplaces in Room 1 are in a quiet zone.
