Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
Have you ever wondered how engineers select the right materials or design complex systems?
Or are you curious about how artificial intelligence is used in mechanical engineering?
Or would you like to explore the question of how we can achieve low-emission or emission-free production? In the mechanical engineering programme at THGA in Bochum, you will learn exactly that and much more! Discover your passion for technology! Come to Bochum and study mechanical engineering!
Note: The programme has been further developed and is currently undergoing accreditation. The final decision of the Accreditation Council on the further developments is still pending. Changes are therefore subject to change.
We do not have a minimum grade requirement for bachelor's programmes, nor do we charge tuition fees. We only charge a semester fee, which includes the Deutschland-Ticket for public transport.

All information on enrolment and dates can be found here.
Major fields of study
We offer three specialisations for full-time study, from which you can choose one to study in depth. If you are studying part-time, you can choose the specialisation in production and quality management. We do not charge tuition fees. Only a semester fee is charged, which includes the NRW ticket for public transport.
Excellent job prospectsMechanical engineering graduates are in demand
Our mechanical engineering degree programme offers you access to many areas in industry, services and public service. Graduates from our university work in quality assurance at steel processing companies or take on management roles at manufacturing companies.
Additional Qualifications
With our additional qualifications, you can set yourself apart from others right from the start of your career. You can obtain valuable certificates – either free of charge or at a very low price compared to standard market offers.
In many large companies in Germany, MTM is the standard for increasing productivity. In view of demographic change and the shortage of skilled workers, MTM expertise is particularly important for young engineers. Through MTM training, you will learn to model complex processes, design standard-compliant processes and adapt the MTM language. You can register for the certificate within the Industrial Engineering 1 course. It costs €150 to the MTM Association e.V., and the exam takes place during the semester. Upon successful completion of the course and exam, you will receive the MTM-1, UAS qualification. Further information is available from our academic advisory service.
Here, you will focus on industrial engineering. For professionals in this field, tasks can vary depending on the industry and company. Nevertheless, their main task is almost always to optimise processes along the entire value chain. You will receive the free certificate if you participate in the Industrial Engineering 1 and 2 courses and then pass your module examination. Further information is available from our academic advisory service.
Here you will learn the basics of training to become a welding engineer or welding technician. You will learn about different welding techniques, the behaviour of materials during welding, and deal with strength theory, weld seam calculations and the design of welded joints. You will successfully take the Welding Technology I exam at the THGA and then take a written exam at the SLV Duisburg (cost approx. £160). Further information is available from our academic advisory service.
