Design sustainable material and energy conversion processes

Are you interested in efficient and sustainable production processes in the process industry?

Would you like to help shape and optimise technical processes in industries such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals or food?

Are you looking to deepen your scientific knowledge with an international focus? Or would you prefer the flexibility to decide for yourself how international your degree programme is – with a minimum of 20 per cent of modules taught in English and the option to take up to 50 per cent of your courses in English?

Then the Master's programme in Process and Environmental Engineering at the Georg Agricola Technical University (THGA) in Bochum, in the heart of the Ruhr region, is just right for you.

Technologies for sustainable industry

The modern process industry faces the challenge of using resources efficiently and reducing emissions while ensuring high product quality. Achieving these goals requires experts who understand processes, can analyse them and design them for the future. The Master's programme qualifies you for this – with technical know-how, environmental awareness and an international perspective.

Next Level Studies

The programme provides in-depth engineering knowledge in process engineering, focusing on environmental technology, sustainable production processes and the energy efficiency of process engineering plants. The programme focuses on topics such as resource-efficient processing of primary and secondary raw materials, energy-efficient thermal separation processes, scale-up and safety of chemical reactions, environmental analysis and measurement technology, and sustainable process design and simulation.

TCV-Laboratory

In the Laboratory for Thermal and Chemical Process Engineering, Master's students deepen their expertise in modern process and analytical technology. With sophisticated experimental setups, instrumental analysis and research-oriented projects, the laboratory offers ideal conditions for experimental specialisation, project work and final theses in the field of thermal and chemical process engineering.

Study full-time or part-time in the evenings

You can complete the Master's programme in either four semesters of standard study time (= full-time) or six semesters of standard study time (= part-time).

During your studies, you will deepen and expand your existing specialist knowledge in process and environmental engineering. The lecture content is taught in seminar-style classes, seminars, exercises and practicals. As part of research-oriented modules, you will deepen your scientific work in a team. Practical work experience in a company is also an integral part of the programme. We also recommend writing your Master's thesis in cooperation with a company in order to further expand your own network and gain professional experience

Please note: The degree programme has been further developed and is currently undergoing the accreditation process. A positive assessment has already been received from the ASIIN accreditation agency; the final decision by the Accreditation Council is still pending. We therefore reserve the right to make changes. The relevant ministry has approved the launch of the degree programme for the winter semester 2026/27.

We do not charge tuition fees. We only charge a semester fee, which includes the Deutschland-Ticket for public transport.
