Bachelor program Electrical Engineering and Information Technology

The Electrical Engineering and Information Technology major encompasses concentrations in power engineering, communications engineering, information technology and automation.

Power engineering is the study of generating, transmitting, distributing and utilizing electrical energy in large-scale power plants, wind turbine generators and solar power systems. Power engineers produce heat and light on massive scales or convert electricity into mechanical energy.

In communications engineering, information (messages) is recorded, converted, transmitted and stored using electrical and electronic equipment. With the advent of the Information Age (internet), communications engineering has gained significantly in importance. It provides the processes and equipment that make it possible to send messages online from any point on Earth to any other point.

Information Technology combines computer science with modern communications engineering. These engineers develop, design, build, start up, and maintain information technology systems. That requires a lot of knowledge about the architecture and workings of processors, operating systems and programming tools, not to mention databases, networks, and conventional and multimedia interfaces.

Automation technology is the art of automating technical processes in products and factories. It describes the structure, equipment and programs used to make automation systems as well as automation processes and the computer-aided completion of automation projects.

Application deadlines:

  • For the sommer semester: 15th January
  • For the winter semester: 15th July


International applicants must present transcript and other documents that prove that they are entitled to attend a university in their home country, and that this entitlement is equivalent to the German Fachhochschulreife. Alternatively, they can preent (a) documents that show that they have passed the tests granting them the Fachhochschulreife, or (b) foreign documents recognized by the Ministry of Education that show they have obtained the Fachhochschulreife or the allgemeine Hochschulreife.

Chinese applicants are also required to present the certificate granted by the Academic Testing Center (Akademische Prüfstelle - APS) of the German Embassy in Beijing.

Moroccan applicants must attend a one-year college preparatory program (Studienkolleg). Alternatively, they can present a general or technical baccalaurèat along with documents showing that they successfully completed one year of studies in Morocco in a degree program similar of the one they are applying for.

International students must also present proof that their German language skills are adequate (DSH test, TestDaF).
